Virginia Alene (Lay) Briggs, 82, died on Sunday, March 4, 2007 at her home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born October 29, 1924 in Stroud, Oklahoma the daughter of John and Bernice Irene (Byers) Lay. She was raised in Stroud, Oklahoma where she graduated from high school in 1942. She married Ellis D. "Ed" Briggs on August 5, 1943 in Henderson, Kentucky. They made their home in Tulsa for many years where they were members of the Harvard Avenue Baptist Church. She retired as a bookkeeper for Petty's Fine Foods. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989 and her daughter, Nancy Elaine Smith. She is survived by her daughters: Peggy Kay Briggs of Tulsa; Sandra Irene Kidd of Tulsa; her son: Ed Briggs of Fletcher, OK; her sister: Maxine Cardwell of Tulsa, OK; brother: Bill Lay of Grove, OK; 6 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 7, 2007 in the Ninde Woodland Chapel, 5757 S. Memorial. Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
