Thelma Elizabeth Moore
Obituary
Thelma Elizabeth Moore was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on Halloween, 1924, a day that she enjoyed sharing and celebrating with others her entire life. She passed from this life peacefully Monday, July 30, 2018 at the age of 93 in the presence of her loving children. Thelma was an obstetrical nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Pittsburgh, where she met the love of her life, Matt. Thelma and Matt married and moved to Tulsa in 1947, where Matt started his obstetrical practice and where they raised their five children.
Thelma was an original member of the Church of the Madalene, where she was very involved with its women’s club. Her love of cooking and devotion to service led her to Madalene’s cooking ministry where she was coordinator for the homeless meals; she also volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She was honored with her husband to be chosen as a Lady and Knight of the Holy Sepulcher.
Thelma was passionate about golf and always said her crowning golf achievement was her hole-in-one at Pebble Beach, #7. Novembers always brought the expectation of a recently-won Thanksgiving turkey. In her later years with Matt, Thelma enjoyed the outdoors and fishing, being especially proud of her 12 ½ pound German brown trout caught on a 2# test line at Bull Shoals in Arkansas.
Gourmet cook, seamstress to her family, avid bridge player and painter, Thelma inspired her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren alike. She will always be remembered for her exceptional grace, beauty and humility, and her sense of humor. Her greatest joy was her family.
Thelma is loved and will be missed by her children, Lynn Schaefer (Steve), J. A. Moore, Matt Moore, Jr. (Susan), Maureen Cater (Mark) and Mindy Moore; her grandchildren, David Schaefer (Mary), Stephanie Figioli (Pax), Brian Schaefer (Jenyne), Daniel Hancock, Emily Moore, Caroline Moore, Ted Robinson and Matt Robinson (Katie); and her great-grandchildren, Paul, Sonny and Bo Figioli.
The rosary will be prayed at 9:00 a.m. and a mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 3, 2018, both at Church of the Madalene.
The family wishes to express its gratitude to Dr. Donald Higgins, the caring staff at Franciscan Villa, Cura Hospice and in particular Rebecca Montgomery, and to all the other loving people that helped her on her journey.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Women of the Madalene or to a charity of the giver’s choice.

Such a classy lady! Growing up, we were at her house as much as our own and she always made us feel welcome. Driving by the house now just doesn't feel the same. She lived a full and graceful life and we were all the better for it.

To the children of Thelma Moore, Your Mother was the happiest and most cheerful person that I have ever met. I can't remember not seeing a smile on her face. I don't know if she ever talked about my Dad, Bernie Baltes. He was a retired Doctor from Arkansas and had come to live with my husband and I after my Mother past away. They were both very strong in their religion and both would attend morning Mass. They both had a lot in common, your Dad being a Doctor and my Dad being a Doctor; Both having a large family of boy and girls, loving to fish and cook what was caught. After the last fishing trip Dad took to Alaska, he had brought back so much fish, Salomon, Halibut or Haddock and with our freezer bursting at the seams, he decided with his fish and your Mom's cooking talents, a dinner needed to be planned. I guess everything went well and so they had a couple dinners. Right after that Dad was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in May of 2005 and we lost him in October of that year. After 2005, I would see your Mom at church and she always had that beautiful smile on her face. I want to say that your Mom's smile always put a smile on my Dad's face.
