Shirley Davis Lull

Shirley Davis Lull

Obituary

Shirley Davis Lull was born into the loving arms of the Davis and Halleman families in Oak Park Illinois on February 23, 1930, on a historic mild winter 60° day in the greater Chicago area. There she led the idyllic life of the American family during those years of aunts, uncles and grandparents all living close by. Her summers on Pistakee Bay were lifelong memories of joy and love.

Waiting for her in Heaven on Sept 30, 2026, were her husband of 56 years Paul Emerson Lull, parents Bast Clarence and Hazel Davis along with her brother Don Davis and his wife Carolyn.

In those 96 1/2 years she accomplished a lot. Graduating from Purdue University and marrying Paul Emerson Lull on February 5, 1949. They welcomed their 3 children Jane Pauline, Paul Emerson III and Dorothy Grace.

Teaching Home Economics, English and a career development program in her 30 years, were acknowledged and recognized by those in her profession.  Her work ethic, good character, devotion, quick, wit, excellent memory, and of course, good language skills were passed down to the next generations. And she was devoted to those next generations, prayerfully, protective, and powerfully loving eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

She was a good cook, a southern girl at heart, a Hoosier and an Arizonan. She could produce a Thanksgiving meal in a camper, she could hold a rod deep-sea fishing, she could ice skate, she could swim forever and she could read for hours. And when her eyes were not good for reading her memory of Bible verses and scripture kept her in the teaching mode to her family. Her faith in Jesus was her cornerstone.

She was a strong woman that no physical task was too much and even at 96 tried to keep her worn out joints working.  She was naturally beautiful, with some powder and red lipstick, she was off and running.

Her legacy includes her children, Jane and her husband Mike Juergens, Dorothy and her husband Steve Golen, Paul and his wife, Becky Lull. Grandchildren: Amanda and her husband Chris Eeles, Michelle Juergens, Rachael and her husband Cam Quisenberry, Katie and her husband Glen Stoller, Madeline and her husband Brian Norris, Andy and his wife Sonja Lull, Derek and his wife Natalie Lull, Caroline and her husband Dylan Hegyi Great grandchildren: Elsie, Charlie, Andie, Ryan, Olivia, Wells, Rhodes, Jack, Marty, Westin, Cassie, Jordan, Adeline, Reagan.

Sometimes Mom’s goodbyes were from the Elizabeth Barrett Browning poem: “How do I love thee let me count the ways, I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My soul can reach.”  So do we Mom, Grandma and Great grandma!!!!
