Roger Cullen Mobley

Roger Cullen Mobley, our daddy and papa, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 29, 2024, in Tulsa, OK with his loving daughters by his side. He was born May 3, 1933, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Alma Bookout Mobley and Cullen Albert Mobley. Roger later moved to Tulsa, where he spent his childhood surrounded by his siblings, cousins, and close friends, spending all his summers with extended family and cousins in Rector, Arkansas. He attended Kendall Elementary, Wilson Junior High, and was a proud graduate of Will Rogers High School in 1951.

Roger attended Washington University in St. Louis, where he graduated with honors. He was invited to join the elite Strategic Air Force Command, where he flew B-47 bombers.

Roger moved back to Tulsa, where he built his Farmers Insurance agency and owned apartment complexes near the University of Tulsa. It was these apartments where his future wife, Anne, lived as a young teacher. The two began dating and were married six months later.

Roger had a deep love for art from a young age. When he was 10 years old, he gathered the neighborhood children to teach them art lessons. His lifelong love of art included classical music, opera, ballet and cooking. He always appreciated the beautiful things in life. He was one of a small group of Tulsans who helped build the Simon Estes Foundation, which provides scholarships for Tulsa-area high school seniors who otherwise would have been unable to attend college. Of all things important in life, most important was his family. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life. 

In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Anne; their daughter, Genia; their grandson, Trey Shrewder; and his brother, Danny Mobley.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Susan and Jay Shrewder, Amy and Joe Stoeppelwerth, all of Tulsa, and Becka and Dave Dillon of Dallas; his eight grandchildren: Taylor and Alex Shrewder, Emily, Eliza, and Phoebe Stoeppelwerth, Meg, Mary Kate and Millie Dillon; and his sister, Kay Thurman, as well as many other cherished family and friends.

A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 3, 2025, at First Presbyterian Church, 709 S. Boston Avenue. Following the service, the family invites everyone to join them at the Shrewder’s home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Roger’s memory to First Presbyterian Church.
