Robert Louis Stover

Robert Louis (“Bob”) Stover of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed from this life into life eternal on October 26, 2017.  He was 93 years old.  Born in Pond Creek, Oklahoma on August 31, 1924, Bob was the youngest twin son of Henry J. and Myrtie E. Stover.  He was preceded in death by his siblings Harold, Donald, Forest, Margaret and Richard, and his loving wife, Ann Keeslar Stover – a native of Oklahoma City.

Bob grew up in Pond Creek and later Enid where he graduated from high school.  He attended the University of Oklahoma from 1942-46, majoring in Petroleum Engineering.  It was at OU that he met and married his wife Ann.  Bob was in the Navy ROTC and Reserve at OU and also played varsity football under coach Dewey “Snorter” Luster during those war years.  He was always proud that the Sooners won the Big Six championship in 1944.  Bob was called to active duty near the end of the war in the Pacific, then returned to Norman when the war was over to finish his education and receive his degree.

In his professional career with Skelly Oil, Anderson Prichard and Union Texas Petroleum, Bob and Ann lived in various cities in West Texas, New Mexico and briefly in Oklahoma City before spending longer periods in Great Bend, Kansas and Midland, Texas, where their three children Bruce, Robert Jr. and Peggy grew up.  From 1972-1985, Bob and Ann enjoyed international assignments with Union Texas in Singapore, Jakarta, Indonesia and London.  They retired to Lakeway, Texas in 1985 and lived many happy years there until Ann’s death in 2003.  Bob moved to Tulsa in 2004 and resided at Montereau where he was affectionately known in the earlier years as “the Mayor”.

More important than his professional life and achievements are the countless people whose lives he positively impacted in his 93 years on this earth.  Bob was unpretentious with an irrepressible positive spirit and genuine kindness that influenced every life he touched.  He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and father-figure to the families of his siblings who preceded him in death.  His true legacy is not what he did in his work, but what he did to make a positive and enduring difference in the lives of others – family, friends, co-workers and countless others in his sphere on influence.  Well done good and faithful servant!

He is survived by his three children – Peggy (of Tulsa), Robert Jr. (of Ada) and Bruce (of Oklahoma City), as well as his six grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren who lovingly called him “B-Bob”.

Bob’s life was both extended and enriched by the friendships he made in his 14 years at Montereau, most especially Ms. Sue Price, who has become part of the family.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the Coterie Theatre at Montereau in Tulsa on November 11 at 11:00 am.  A reception will follow.  Interment will be at a later date in the Memorial Garden at The Lakeway Church in Lakeway, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that extended family and friends make a donation to either NewViewOklahoma or the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.  The family wishes to express its gratitude to the many people in the Montereau family who cared so lovingly for their Dad over the last 14 wonderful years of his life.
