Obituary
Rena Evelyn (Bell) Howe was born July 17, 1924 in Lamar, AR to Milton Luther & Alice (Hinkle) Bell and passed from this life January 28, 2017 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 92.
Evelyn worked for Amerada Hess Corporation until she retired. She then worked for Coiffure Continental Salon as the receptionist for nearly 30 years. She was an active Toastmaster and served as DTM Governor. She was an avid golfer for many years at Rolling Hills country club, loved to fish, garden, wear high heels, and has NEVER been seen without a fresh manicure and pedicure!
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hubert Francis Hawkins; her sisters, Mary Ann Gentry and Mildred Freed; and her brothers, Lester Bell and Gene Bell. She is survived by her husband, Robert J. Howe; her daughter, Marilyn Anice Daniel; her son, Samuel Lee Hawkins; her sister, Edna Alexander; her grandchildren, Angela Taylor, Stephanie Starkey, Crystal Schwen, Jemajo Whitney, Melissa Finkenstaedt and Samuel Lee Hawkins, Jr.; her great grandchildren, Hanna Bryant, Collin Taylor, Megan Starkey, Briar Starkey, Wyatt Starkey, Rachel Finkenstaedt, Mallory Finkenstaedt, Laurel Finkenstaedt, Brandon Hawkins, Jenna Toles and Bailey McGrew; and her great, great granddaughter, Kirby Toles.
Evelyn will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday with the family receiving friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. Her funeral will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel and will be laid to rest following.

I am honored to have known Evelyn as a mentor, friend and fellow Toastmaster. My sincere condolences to her husband (Bob), her children (Sam and Marilyn) and to the entire family. Evelyn will be greatly missed. She was loved by all of us, and she will be cherished in our memories. I met Evelyn at the Friends of Greenwood Toastmasters Club, where she served as club sponsor. Her love for Toastmasters inspired many. Evelyn was a motivating leader who positioned herself in a continuous process of learning and achievements throughout her 92 years. She supported many through her church, in the community and in Toastmasters. She led by example, and her love, support and encouragement reached beyond race, gender, culture, etc. May God’s love and peace surround the family and may the family always be comforted by the memory of Evelyn’s love for each of them.

At an age when others might not engage in new activities, Evelyn and Bob were part of a group in 2002 that was praying for a children's home to come into existence through the efforts of area United Methodists and a special woman Mrs. Peter Lee. They helped with fundraisers and promoted the Happy Children's Home of China, now in 11th year of operation. Have missed her presence this last year at meetings. Know her family misses her too.
