Nancy Lee Payton

Nancy Lee Payton, loving mother, sister and daughter, passed from this life on Monday, February 1, 2016, at St. Johns Medical Center at 92 years of age.

She was born November 25, 1923, in Alexandria, Virginia, to Lee Michael Wheelehan and Catherine Georgiana Wheelehan, nee Hood. Nancy graduated from George Washington high school in Alexandria and afterwards attended the University of Iowa where she met her husband for life. After her marriage, Nancy and Mark lived in several cities, including Ft. Worth, Texas, where her daughter was born; Oklahoma City, where her son was born; and Bartlesville, Oklahoma, before finally settling in Tulsa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, George Frederick Wheelehan; and her sister, Marguerite Louise (Peggy) Moneymaker.

She is survived by her husband, Mark Frank Payton; her brother, Gary Richard Wheelehan; her two children, Sharon Lynn Kimmel and Mark F. Payton III; and her two grandchildren, Sean Kimmel and Amy Kimmel. Nancy was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and enjoyed various volunteer work in the community, along with golf and tennis.
