Mike Lewis

Mike Lewis

Obituary

Mike Lewis, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and proud United States Air Force veteran, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026, at the age of 81.

Born on May 28, 1945, in Glen Cove, New York, Mike dedicated much of his life to serving his Country. He proudly served in the United States Air Force, including during the Vietnam War. His military service was a source of great pride, reflecting his courage, dedication, and commitment to his Country and fellow service members.

Before deploying to Vietnam, Mike met the love of his life, Diane, in San Antonio, Texas. Following a brief courtship, Mike and Diane married June 10, 1967. Mike and Diane's marriage was such a whirlwind that they did not get to experience a honeymoon until his Rest and Recuperation. After that whirlwind beginning, Mike and Diane continued to love and honor one another for the rest of Mike's incredible life.

Following his military career, Mike continued to serve others through his work, his friendships, and his selfless devotion to his family. His children, Todd and Alison, were tremendous sources of pride for Mike. Whether it was son Todd's career serving his fellow Texans in the Texas Highway Patrol, or his daughter Alison's dancing or veterinary career, Mike took joy in discussing his children's service and accomplishments. His face would always light up when he talked about the fun he had doing ride-alongs with Todd or driving for hours on end each week for Alison's dance competitions and practices. That same joy carried over to Mike’s grandchildren, Kale and Cormac.

If there is one phrase to describe Mike accurately, it is selfless devotion. He was selflessly devoted to his Country, his wife Diane, his children, and his grandchildren. He was always quick to lend his time or treasure to help people around him. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa and "Ito" and will be remembered for the lasting impression he made on the lives of those who knew and loved him.

Mike is preceded in death by his mother and father, his sister Pat DiPietro, his nephew Dean Lewis and his first born son, Marc Lewis.

Mike is survived by his wife Diane, his son Todd Lewis and his wife Shannon, his daughter Dr. Alison Vanderhoof and her husband Dustin, his grandchildren Kale Lewis and Cormac Vanderhoof, his brother Buddy, his nieces and nephews, and numerous other friends who considered him family.

A rosary will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 2026 with a memorial celebration directly following at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church 4001 E 101st St. S, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mike was such a part of my life while stationed at Sheppard AFB, TX and continued long after. When I separated from the Air Force Mike gave me a job at base supply. Our work relationship turned into a true friendship with him, as well as, Diane and Allison. His nickname for me was "Boss Man". He loved it! When I got pregnant with my daughter he was the best boss and made sure I did not overdo it because I was working in a warehouse at the time. No A/C. He became my daughter's honorary grandfather since my parents weren't local. So many happy memories. Going to Allison's clogging competitions, holidays with the Lewis'. So many more. I will miss you, Boss Man! Thank you for being you and bringing so much light to the world. You will forever be a part of heart. ❤️

I was there when Mike and Diana met! It was Diana who introduced me to my husband,Dennis. We have kept in touch all these years. I remember when Mike and Diana visited us when we lived in a tiny apartment outside the gates of Ft Hood. We were all so young and full of hopes and dreams about our futures. Mike and Diana were and are an inspiration. They had two wonderful children and took care of each other in good times and bad. I am so blessed to have called them dear, dear friends.Rest in-the peace of the Lord,Mike. Stay strong Diana. Frankie
