Mary Burke

Mary Charlene Burke, 77, died Monday, August 7, 2006. Born February 14, 1929, to Owen and Phrona Dorsey at the home of her grandparents, Mack and Mary Garner, in Amity, Arkansas. She attended school in Arkansas, Alabama, and Oklahoma. As her daughters grew older, she began a career in retail sales, assisting primarily with childrenswear at Froug's, Sakowitz, Hampton's, Dillard's, and Stein Mart. She was active in nursery programs at Capitol Hill Assembly of God and Evangelistic Temple for 30 years, lavishing love and care on the little ones every Sunday and Wednesday night. In recent years she enjoyed attending Asbury Methodist Church with friends. Mary Charlene was preceded in death by husband Willard Dale Burke and is survived by 2 daughters, Deborah Burke and husband Malcolm Taylor, and Mary D. Burke. 5 grandchildren will remember her with affection, Loren Wenger, Kimberly and Jennifer Elkins, Sarah and Simon Taylor and 1 great grandchild, Austin Elkins. She was admired by friends and family and will be sorely missed for her loving, unselfish way with every life she touched. Visitation planned 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday, August 10, at Ninde Woodland Chapel, 250-5556. Service is 10 a.m. Friday, August 11, in the Chapel at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
