Obituary
Martha Josephine Bradley, “Martha Jo,” was born January 3, 1921 in Tulsa to Horace H. and Johnnye Josephine (Powell) Copple. She passed peacefully from this life Wednesday, March 29, 2017 in Tulsa at the age of 96.
Martha Jo was a life-long Tulsa resident and 1938 graduate of Tulsa Central High School. She attended Stephens College and the University of Tulsa. Martha Jo met John D. Bradley and they were married on August 30, 1941. They were long-time members of Boston Avenue United Methodist Church, where over the years she served as Chairman of the Worship Committee, was member of the United Methodist Women, Boston Avenue’s History and Archives Committee, Continuing Education, as well as various other groups. She was a faithful volunteer for the American Red Cross and the Tulsa County Election Board. She was also an avid Bridge player and was member of Tout Le Monde Bridge Club.
Martha Jo was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John Davidson Bradley in 1997. She is survived by her son, John Bradley of Tulsa; daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Randy Rist of Little Elm, TX; granddaughters, Laura J. Gueldner of Arvada, CO, Lynda D. Smith and her husband, Lt. Col. Brandon Smith of Ft. Drum, NY, Lindsey E. Smith and her husband, Brad, and Cassidy L. Rist; her great grandchildren, Jonas and Noah Gueldner, Tatom, Norah Smith and Kennedy Smith.
The family will receive friends 5-7:00 p.m. Sunday at Ninde Brookside Funeral Home, 39th & South Peoria. A private family graveside committal will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute in Martha Jo’s memory to Boston Avenue Methodist Church, History and Archives Committee, 1301 S. Boston Ave., Tulsa, OK 74119.

Grandma- thank you for sharing with me all your Army stories and knowledge! From you I gained so much insight into the traditions, customs and day to day challenges of an Army wife! I will never forget the trip we took together to the Shenandoah Valley to see the Fall Foliage. Our stop in Indiana to see “Buddy’s” final resting place with his flight crew from WWII was an amazing moment; I am glad I could share that week with you. My mother, Virginia Rainwater, and I were lovingly remembering Martha Jo this morning. As my mother said, in a most complimentary way, "There was a time that one wondered how Boston Avenue kept going without Martha Jo". She was such a capable, devoted, energetic and faithful member of BA. I remember way back when I was a teen-ager... I always loved encountering Martha Jo. She was always friendly and enthused about whatever was going on at that time at church. I know you in the family will greatly miss her being present in your life. But, wonderfully for Martha Jo, she is reunited with loved ones and now beginning her eternal life in heaven...
