Marlin Russell Garrett
Obituary
Marlin Russell Garrett was born December 29, 1959, in Lawton, OK to his parents Franklin Davison & Beulah Ann (Garroute) Garrett and passed from this life on September 7, 2023, at the age of 63.
Marlin worked as a Petroleum Engineer in Oklahoma City, Denver, and Tulsa over the course of his career. He loved attending football games at his alma mater, The University of Tulsa, enjoyed concerts, and going camping and fishing. Always the engineer, Marlin never missed an opportunity to share his love of rocks and understanding of the natural world.
Preceded in death by his father, Marlin is survived by his mother; his daughters and sons-in-law, Kathryn Garrett & David Hull and Ashley & Stevie Fernandez; and his grandchildren, Sofia, Heidi, Finnik and Vivien.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Marlin’s name to the American Indian Science and Engineering Society to help support Indigenous peoples in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) studies.

I enjoyed the time I spent with Marlin while we were engineers at Samson. He was a great engineer, mentor, and business man. Sorry to see him pass. All the best to his family.

I also worked at Samson with Marlin. Marlin was the quintessential "Samson" engineer-strong technically, but maybe even a stronger business sense. Whether professionally or personally, Marlin was always working hard to extract the most value out of any deal. Plus-Marlin was just a fun guy to be around. On any subject, he was eager to share his unique perspective. I learned a lot from him and enjoyed knowing him-he will be missed. My condolences to his family.

I worked with Marlin at Samson. I remember he taught me the formula for a hyperbolic decline; he enjoyed sharing his knowledge of the oil and gas engineering. Prayers are with the family at this sad time.
