Lydia McDonald

Lydia Lee Warkentin was born July 28, 1915 in rural Lehigh Kansas to Gerhard and Helena Warkentin. She had eight sisters and four brothers. After graduating from nursing school, she worked as an RN in Newton, KS, where she met and soon married Terence McDonald, who was a patient at the time. Lydia and family spent two years in New Delhi, India where she volunteered as a nurse in the surrounding villages. She lived in Tulsa, OK from 1975 until her death on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at the age of 96.

Lydia was a devoted mom, bridge player and member of Community Baptist Church in Tulsa. She was also a longtime member of PEO, a women's charitable organization. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Terence and a son, Myron. She is survived by her son, Terry McDonald and his wife, Carol of Tulsa; daughter, Mary Gosney of St Louis, MO; daughter-in-law, Ellen McDonald of Tulsa; grandson, Mike McDonald and his wife, Alden and great grandsons, Oliver and Brixton of San Pedro, CA; granddaughter, Cara Harjes and her husband, Herb of Denver CO; granddaughter, Amy Gosney and her fiancé, Mark McKenzie of Columbia MO; grandson, Andy Gosney and his wife, Jayna of St Louis, MO.

A funeral service will be held 10:00 am Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Community Baptist Church followed by a private family committal. A memorial service will also be held 4:00 pm Wednesday at University Village Theater, 8550 S. Lewis, Tulsa.
