John Benson Garner of Tulsa, age 47, departed for a better life on Friday, March 31, 2017. John was an Eagle Scout, a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, a 1988 graduate of Cascia Hall Preparatory School, attended TCC, Spartan School of Aeronautics, The College of Santa Fe and OSU School of Culinary Arts
In recent years, he was of great personal assistance to his dad, Bob. John was an accomplished chef, often preparing meals for family and holiday events.
He is survived by his mother, Chelley Wallack, and dad, Robert Wallack of the home; his father, John C. Garner, Jr., Atlanta, Georgia, as well as sisters & brothers-in-law, Tracey & Gary Dean of Pryor, OK and Kelly & Sam Brixey of Chandler, OK; his aunts and uncles, Jane Garner of Austin, Texas; Fran & Harland Garner of Seabrook, Texas; Louise & Ralph Hurlbutt of Kennebunk, Maine; Sandy & Cap Hurlbutt of Broken Arrow, OK; Christi & Bill Hurlbutt of Tigard, Oregon; cousins, Ben, Carrie, Maggie, Tyler Hurlbutt and Genevieve & Andrew Tarnow; his Godmother, Mary Thurston Kirkham of Water Mill, Long Island, NY and many special friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 41st and Atlanta, with a reception following at the Wallack home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma, 1401 S Boulder, Suite 300, Tulsa 74119 (John and his Big Brother Thom Clark had a life-long friendship through the Big Brothers program) or the National Alliance on Mental Illness, 700 S Boston Ave., Ste 219, Tulsa 74119.
