Goldie M. Ferguson-Askins

Goldie Mae Ferguson-Askins was born July 26, 1921 in Porum, OK to Walker Vernon & Bessie A. (Hutton) Griffin and passed from this life surrounded by family on February 2, 2016 at the age of 94. Goldie graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University with a Bachelor degree in Education and taught for 38 years.

Goldie married Jack Russell Ferguson; they had 2 children, Dr. Dale Vernon Ferguson of Little Rock, Arkansas and Dr. Marla Gail Smith of Owasso, Oklahoma. Goldie had 4 grandchildren; Denise, Bruce, Thad, and Bradley and 8 great grandchildren, Kellsie, Lindsay, Megan, Hayley, Lacey, Jacob, Raelynn, and Ellie Grace. Additionally she had a host of extended family and friends.

Goldie was a world traveler, a talented bridge player, and a passionate school teacher. She belonged to Kappa Kappa Iota, and was past president of the Tulsa Book Club. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Following Jack’s death, she married Benton Harold Askins on August 9, 1996. Goldie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack R. Ferguson; and her brothers, Ray Griffin and Ralph Griffin. She is survived by her husband, Benton Harold Askins; her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Dale V. & Barbara Ferguson; her daughter and son-in-law, Drs. Marla G. & Clint Smith; her sisters, Bonnie Herron, Annabelle Ishmael, and Sophia Griffin; 4 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.

Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. at the Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. A funeral will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Southern Hills Baptist Church. She will be laid to rest at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens.
