Gerald L. Mattox

Gerald Lester Mattox was born August 30, 1930 in Fresno, CA to Rev. Carlos Lester & Hazel Odessa (Haley) Mattox and passed from this life September 15, 2016 at the age of 86.

Gerald was a buyer in the manufacturing and energy businesses, and completed his working career with Wilbros. Gerald was a member of Carbondale Assembly of God church, and served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Gerald was a life-long Christ follower, having accepted Jesus as savior at an early age.

Gerald was a loving husband and father to his two children, who will miss him greatly. He enjoyed travel, listening to southern gospel music, reading, growing flowers, and playing his guitar.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Mary Lou (Carpenter) Mattox; his son and daughter-in-law, Roger & Carrie Mattox; his daughter and son-in-law, Pam & Chris Miller; his brothers, Kenneth Mattox and Michael Mattox; his sister, Kathy Blackmon; his grandchildren, Anthony Miller, Nick Miller and Isaac Dubois; and his two great grandchildren, Maceo Miller and Skyler Dubois.

Gerald and Mary Lou married in October 1948 and were married for almost 68 years.

Gerald will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday with the family receiving friends from 5-7 at the Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. A home-going service will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Carbondale Assembly of God and a graveside service will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens.
