Frank Shimkus

Shimkus, Frank W., a long time Tulsan, died Monday, March 23, 2009 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 79. Frank was born April 1, 1929 in Collinsville, IL to Marcella (Schwartz) Shimkus and Simon Shimkus. He is preceded in death by 9 of his ten brothers and sisters as well as his parents. Frank is survived by his sister Magdelena Shimkus Moore of Newberry Park, CA, his daughter Cara Shimkus Hall, son-in-law Michael R. Hall and their two sons Joseph and Alexander, all of Tulsa. Frank attended the University of Tulsa, where he was a Sigma Chi and met some of his most cherished lifelong friends. He was known for his more than 40 years of tireless volunteer support of numerous Tulsa non-profits including the River Parks Authority, The Arts and Humanities Council of Tulsa, Tulsa Run, United Way, and the Salvation Army. After his retirement from the US Army Corps of Engineers, he volunteered for the PGA and the Tour Championship. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m., Friday, March 27, 2009 at Holy Family Cathedral.
