Obituary
Eugene Madison Hambright, 83, passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2015. He was born July 13, 1931 in Sapulpa, OK to Vandean and Allie Hambright. He graduated from Oilton High School in 1949 and attended Hayes State College. He began working for Texaco while in Tulsa, OK and was later transferred to Hayes, KS. He worked his way up in the company from working in the fields to the position of pipe purchaser and was then transferred to Salem, IL. Subsequently he was transferred to Kingfisher, OK where he retired after 38 years of employment. After retirement from Texaco he married his wife Myrna. They enjoyed buying and updating rental property, gardening, landscaping and home improvement projects. He enjoyed relaxing and watching sports and playing the lottery. He was a great family man. He put the Grand in Grandpa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Charlsie; his siblings, Carolyn, Aleen and Darrel; and three grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Myrna, of the home; daughters, Karen Eck of Santa Rosa, CA; Judy Becker and husband Steve of Aurora, IL; Paula Butts of Tulsa, OK; Sue Ann Schirmer of Santa Monica, CA; Linda Hayman and husband Mike of Skiatook, OK; Janice Blair and husband Jim of San Pablo, CA; Debbie Littlefield of Tulsa, OK; Teresa Glasco of Tulsa, OK; and Denise Seaborn and husband Randy of Coweta, OK; 19 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; brother-in-law Bo Bohannon of Big Springs, TX; and sisters-in-law Barbara Hambright of Claremore, OK and Blanche McHugh and husband Bob of Austin, TX.
Eugene will lie in state 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. at the Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel and he will be laid to rest in the cemetery following the service.

Eugene Madison Hambright, We miss you so much! We think you are a great man. I'm so happy my mom, Myrna, met you and brought you into our lives! What a blessing you were. Your wonderful mother Allie, your brother Darryl and wife Barbara. Sister Allie and husband Bo. What great people you brought into our lives! Taking us all in as if we were your blood family. It has meant so much! From coming to Texas to have a good time gambling to coming to see not one but two grand children being born. One in Arlinton. The other in Tulsa. Not only born but opening your home for each to be cared for as only you two could do. I miss your words of wisdom. As you offered each day! Thank you for so much! I will miss Eugene answering the phone and then talking for a half hour or so until he got my mom on the phone! I will miss his gentleness and kindness! ❤️

Judy, Paula and Karen...and families. I can't think of the Hambright girls without thinking of your mom and dad. I think I spent as much time in Salem at your house as I did my parent's. I was always welcomed by them and treated like I was just another one of their kids. They were always in the kitchen...your mom at the kitchen table (smoking) ..and Gene was always standing next to her talking to us trying to find out what we were up to. I think he would have loved to go cruzing and hang with us! Always upbeat and just a cool guy and dad. You girls were blessed with great parents who loved you more than ANYONE then and now! I am so sorry for your loss but I am smiling knowing that they are in the kitchen again. Love you all, Susan. ***i have tried posting this unsuccessfully two other times. Rest well Grandpa. I know I haven't seen you since I was a little girl, but the memories from then will always be cherished. I remember our trip to Indian Falls with my dad, mom, and brothers, and I remember how you use to call me your "little spit cup." Karen, my mom, remembers how hard you use to work and support her and my aunts Judy and Paula. You were a good father and grandfather.

Mr. Eugene was a dear sweet and funny man. We came to love Eugene and Myrna. Everytime my son and I would go to visit, Mr. Eugene would always tell stories that would make us laugh and smile. My son owns a 1986 trans am and when Mr. Eugene found out about it, he swore he would one day ride in that car. So my sister, myself, my son, Eugene and Myrna went to the IHOP in Glenpool with and boy howdy! Eugene was dressed to the nines and he was showing off to everyone! When we left the restaurant, my sister drove Myrna home, and I was in my car. But Mr. Eugene was in that trans am with my son and he was grinning ear to ear! He was SO happy. He was acting like a teenager. He enjoyed that ride like he had just won the lottery. We will sorely miss Mr. Eugene. He brought joy to our lives and we will always remember him for his stories and jokes. Miss Myrna, our hearts, prayers and love are with you during this time of sorrow.
