Dr. Ted Kaltenbach Jr. was born August 19, 1953, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, to Ted and Pearl Marie (George) Kaltenbach and passed from this life on March 9, 2019 at the age of 65.
Ted was preceded in death by his father Ted Kaltenbach, Sr.; his son Andrew Clark Kaltenbach; his sister Peggy Gray; nephews Darin Gray, Tyler Moody, and Doug Fairbanks; and brothers-in-law Nick Gray and Jim Parks. He is survived by his mother; his wife, Rhea Michele (Williams) Kaltenbach; his children and their spouses: Kyle Kaltenbach, Adam & Mekall Kaltenbach, Alyson and Michael Kennedy; his stepchildren Ashley Johnston and fiancé Kyle Kuening and Chance Johnston; his sisters Janet Parks and Kathy Gunter; grandchildren Kyle, Ashlyn, Daisy, one granddaughter on the way, Nolan, Chloe, Beckham, and Embry; two great-grandchildren on the way; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ted graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1971. After high school, he attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where he earned a degree in pharmacy in 1976. While attending SWOSU, he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, where he made many lifelong friends. After pharmacy school, he worked for Verle Smith Drug in Tulsa for seven years before attending medical school at Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He graduated in 1986 and obtained a residency in pediatrics from the University of Oklahoma—Tulsa. He went on to establish his practice Kid’s Healthcare, was twice chosen as Tulsa’s Best Pediatrician, and was the on-air pediatrician for Channel 6 News for several years. He dearly loved taking care of children, and he often said his decision to go into pediatrics was because he had four kids of his own.
Ted chaired the Pediatric Department at St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa for the 2000-2001 term and led as chairman of the Medication Use/Nutritional Care Committee for 1997-1998 at St. John’s.
Ted’s passions included OU Sooners football, Oklahoma City Thunder basketball, and baseball. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan from a very early age. He attended numerous games and loved traveling, especially to Chicago to see his beloved Cards beat up on the Chicago Cubs. Ted also enjoyed playing golf. He was on his high school golf team, and as he got older, he loved playing golf with his family and friends. Ted also was known to his family and friends as a great entertainer; everyone who went to Ted’s house was sure to have a great time. He was passionate about Jimmy Buffett’s “Margaritaville” lifestyle—he was a true “Parrot Head” and was known to frequently remark, “It’s five o’clock somewhere.” He loved making people laugh and could always do so with a well-placed corny joke, a sense of humor he inherited from his dad.
Ted will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at the Ninde Brookside Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 15, at the Asbury United Methodist Church, Mason Chapel. He will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Ted’s honor be made to The Children's Hospital Foundation at Saint Francis, 6161 South Yale, Tulsa, OK 74136 www.saintfrancis.com/childrensfoundation/Pages/default.aspx; the American Heart Association, 2227 E Skelly Drive, Tulsa, OK 74105 www.heart.org/en/affiliates/oklahoma/tulsa; or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 www.stjude.org/donate.
He was our kids pediatrician for several years. It was such a shock to hear this news and my sympathies to the family. He was such a great doctor. I remember one Halloween when he dressed up as Beetlejuice. We got such a kick out of that.

Dr. K was my pediatrician when I was a kid, and we had the pleasure of having him as my daughter’s too when she was born. We just absolutely loved him, and can’t believe he is gone. We had to switch doctors due to insurance and are saddened about his passing. We hope his family is coping well and wish them the best in the grieving process. He was just awesome. So sorry for the loss of Dr. K.

I had the pleasure to work for, and with Dr. Kaltenbach for 7+ years. I got to know him and his family and I am grateful for that time spent at his practice. Watching the kids come-in excited to see Dr. K or Dr.Cottenball, (smiling) or a number of other pronunciations children would come up with, since pronouncing his name was a bit challenging for the young-ones. Getting to hear stories from the families that once saw him themselves, as children and now bringing their own children to see Dr. K, was heart-warming. He was an avid OU fan, loved to play golf and have a good time. He will truly be missed. R.I.P. Dr. K. ~Carole Brandl

In 15 years a lot of changes happen in life. You were the once consistent thing in our life. Knowing you were there every time the kids weren’t feeling good was such a relief because I knew you would give them the best care. You are already so missed and no other doctor will ever have our hearts like you did. RIP

WE are so sorry for your loss. Dr. K was a wonderful person, doctor and most importantly a friend. We had the privilege of meeting Dr. K back in 2016 when we took our foster daughter to him. He was so passionate about his job. Dr. K made us feel at home at the doctor office. He truly cared about each one of his little patients as well as the parents too.He kept up with the adoption process with our daughter and then always welcomed our new little ones when we got new foster babies. He always listened to us when we had concerns about our children and would give advice. He always had a smile on his face and had you feeling comfortable in the office. I cannot say enough about this amazing doctor. He will definitely be missed. It is going to be hard finding another doctor for our children. We are just speechless. Words cannot express how much this sweet man means to our little family. You all are in our thoughts and prayers.

My deepest condolences to Dr K’s family. He was all 3 of my children’s doctor from birth until he had to “kick them out” lol. They wanted him to be their doctor forever. They absolutely loved him! He always had a smile on his face and big hugs for the kids. We’ll never forget you, Dr. K!

Our sons saw Dr. Kaltenbach 30 years ago when he started his practice with Dr. Linda Murphy. Their office was located in the Utica area at the time. He and Linda made a great team as both are outstanding people and pediatricians. They understood kids and how to not only treat them medically but also how to interact and communicate with them. Now, or sons are 30 but they still remember the Dr. Kaltenbach/Murphy years-- as it seems that they were in there quite often for one thing or another:) Our family sends heartfelt prayers and condolences to Dr. Kaltenbach's family.

This makes me so sad. We were so lucky to have Dr. Kaltenbach as the girls pediatrician for the past 16 years. He was so kind and caring and always enjoyed teasing the girls about having boyfriends. He had an infectious laugh, always had a smile on his face, and we never left his office without a big hug. He was so much more than just a doctor to our family. We are so sorry for your loss. He will be missed.

Dr. K was the best doctor ever! He listened, he asked you your thoughts. My motto was if Dr. K isn't worried about it, I'm not worried about it. He spoiled the kids, he loved them as if they were his own! You will be missed and our lives are better for having known you. RIP

Dr.K I will miss you so much. You were the greatest Doctor I ever knew. You teased me as a child every time I came to visit, you tried to sneak candy away from me while I was in the hospital knowing how mad I would get lol but most importantly you loved all your patients and making them laugh was something you always did. I remember bringing my own children to see you after not seeing you since I was a child and you recognized me immediately greated me with the best hug and asked how my mom was doing addressing her by her name I knew I had the best doctor as a child and was so happy to have you take care of my babies. Hope your up there enjoying happy hour and living your 2nd best life ever. I love u Dr. K.. until I see you again.

I am absolutely heartbroken to hear of Dr. Kaltenbach’s passing. If you knew me growing up, you would know that I was always sick with something. And in those times I was able to fall in love with the medical field and truly find my passion because of this great pediatrician. As a senior in high school I took a big step towards my goal. I decided to become a certified medical assistant. To complete the course I needed to log 60 hours of clinical training. I knew exactly where I wanted to work at and Dr. K didn’t hesitate to hire me. I got to witness his passion and love for medicine. He truly inspired me. Without him I don’t think I would be two semesters away from a bachelor’s in biology or be close to applying to physician assistant school. He will always have a special place in my heart. Rest in peace Dr. K.

Hello, my name is Sophie. Dr. K has been in my family for almost 30 years and I’ve known him all my life. He was so much like a dad to me, especially when my parents passed. I met Ted when he was finishing his residency and joined the clinic where I worked - Cherry Street Children's Clinic - along with Dr. Linda Murphy. I was the office manager for the clinic when he came. He was a good pediatrician - loved charming the new mommas and especially loved on the babies and children in the practice. He was one of the few physicians I would trust my children's lives to. Things I will remember about him: his laugh, his smile, his tan, his perfectly coiffed hair. He was my son, Kyle's, pediatrician through his early years, and I still giggle when I remember how Kyle used to call him Dr. Cottonballs. We lost touch as my children grew, and when he and Dr. Linda separated their practices, but I will always remember him fondly. My most sincere condolences and sympathy to his family and friends.

Always enjoyed being around Ted. Such a loss. Sincere condolences to family and friends.

Kaltenbach and Moody Families, I am so sorry to hear of Ted's untimely passing. My remembrances of Ted was when his children attended Union schools and I was fortunate to have them in my school as I was their principal. What a pleasure to know and love this family! Each child was so very different yet so thoughtful, bright, creative, and loving. Ted was always present at their events and performances. He was very supportive of educators and always stated his support. After the children moved on out of elementary school, I would hear from parents whose children were his patients how wonderful he was. He developed many lifelong relationships with the children he served and I often would recommend his services to new parents in the area that needed a pediatrician. We know where Ted is, we know he has been joined by family members who went before him, and we know that Andy probably met him at the gates of Heaven, singing and dancing and telling a few one liners himself. The hurt in the hearts of his children will take much time to heal, but the memories will remain fresh and called upon often during this period of grief. I wish Pat, Alyson, Kyle, and Adam my very best in the coming months. And may Ted's other family members know how much Ted's life meant to others and that prayers for peace will continue to be said on your behalf. Hugs to all. RIP Ted Kaltenbach.

Dr. Kaltenbach... was the sweetest man and the best Doctor to anyone that knew him. He has been my siblings and I's doctor for over 18 years and was currently my daughters. He helped me through so much as a child and was the most understanding and helpful man. Even cried with me when I found out I was pregnant at 16 in his office. This breaks my heart to hear him gone so soon. I can still hear his famous "knock knock" walking to our room and the smell of his also famous cologne.. RIP DR. K. You were truly amazing.

To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord... Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this sorrowful time. May God wrap each of you in His living arms granting you peace & comfort. Dr. Kaltenbach was one of a kind. He was our sons' pediatrician from 2003 - 2015 (when we moved to Florida). He saw us through many, many asthma attacks, bouts of bronchitis, strep throat, silly boy accidents and so much more. Always a smile, always a hug and always love & concern. He was an wonderful person and will be missed by so many. Fly high!

Dr. Kaltenbach was my pediatrician all my youth. He definitely made going to the Dr. fun and not terrifying for a child. I'm now 35, I remember going into his office once just before I turned 20 and he was laughing after he had seen and treated me that as much as he would love to continue treating me, I really would have to find a primary care doctor. I simply didn't want to, haha. A great, caring and kind hearted man with such a fun spirt! You will be missed and never forgotten, sir.
