Obituary
Dr. Omer Joe Looper peacefully passed away Sunday evening Dec 28th surrounded by his family.
Joe was born January 7, 1927 to Omer and Blanche Looper in Poteau Oklahoma. He attended The University of Georgia, University of Oklahoma, and ultimately attained a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree from Kansas City University of Osteopathic Medicine. Joe practiced family medicine in Heavener and Miami Oklahoma for many years. Joe was a Navy veteran, member of the American Legion, Lion’s Club, and past president of the Oklahoma Osteopathic Medical Association.
He is survived by his three children; Mary Ivylyn Looper, Felda Kathryn Looper, and John Franklin Looper; Five grandchildren, Chelsea Looper-Stockwell, John Hamilton Looper, Michael Looper, Owen Looper, and Sarah Hudson; One great-grandchild, Brock Looper.
Joe was preceded in death by his Spouses, Maxine Looper and Janice Looper; parents, Omer Jennings and Blanch Amanda Looper; His siblings, Vance Looper and Mildred Shaw.

I have fond memories of working with Dr. Looper at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami, OK. As Chaplain, I served as Chair of the hospital's ethics committee. We could always count on Dr. Looper as our link to the medical staff. He was a stickler for detail and always concerned about patients' rights and quality health care. We had some interesting philosophical and theological discussions. He made a great contribution to the hospital and the community. May the Lord bless you, his family, with peace and comfort as you celebrate Dr. Looper's life.

Dr. Looper was a Poteau friend of my parents, Robert (Bob) and Mary Plumlee. I live in Owasso and each time my dad came to visit he and I would go to Dr. Looper's and take him to dinner. He would invite us into his home and they would share stories with me. It always amazed me how well they remembered all their classmates names, dates of things, and such. I also took my dad to the most recent class reunion in Poteau, which he attended. I enjoyed sitting back and listening to them reminisce. My dad was very saddened at the news of Dr. Looper's passing. I will be unable to attend the service on Monday, but plan to come Sunday afternoon on behalf of my dad to pay our respects. Christy (Plumlee) Foster
