Dixie Lee Schneider

Dixie Lee Schneider

Obituary

Dixie Lee Schneider was born on May 2, 1943 in Claremore, OK to Ivan “Pug” and Rheba (Stock) Honeycutt.  Dixie passed from this life on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at the age of 76.

Shortly after her birth she moved to the Pacific Coast with her Mother and Grandparents to be close to the SEEBEE base where her father was stationed.  After WWII her family settled in Phoenix, Arizona.

Dixie graduated from Carl Hayden High School then moved with her parents to Vinita, Oklahoma and graduated from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. She was certified to teach in Oklahoma and Arizona, in the pioneering studies of behavioral-needs students. She taught for 20+ years in Tulsa Public Schools where her classrooms were often designed for children not thriving in the general classroom environment. Her classes were sometimes loud and chaotic. The children in those classrooms would often say “she was the funniest teacher I ever had, Mrs. Schneider was the best”. She taught them their required studies to move forward while capturing their interest and attention in her own unique way by mixing science with life with such activities as popping corn, watching a tadpole turn into a frog and mosquito larvae grow into a mosquito and caring for baby turtles. She was the teacher who introduced her students to ‘sea monkeys’. Her fascination with life and strong Christian faith were embraced by her students as their paths crossed throughout the years.

Dixie is survived by her sister, Carol Hall of Adair; her son, John (Mike) & Susan Schneider of Chelsea; 3 daughters, Candy Lynn & Kirk Coryn of Owasso, Holly & Dustin Barham of Sand Springs and Destiny & David Marrs of Moore; grandchildren: Silas, Justin & Kelsey, Lindsay & Kayne Maddox, Crisha & Jeremy Alistair, Patrick, Matt & Sara Hayden, William & Hannah.  Sterling & Kaitlyn, Caleb, Zane, Grace, Ivan & Adam. Natalie and Madelyne Marrs. To all she was Mom, Grandma, G’dog or G’ma .

Celebration of Life 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 22, 2019 at the Ninde Brookside Chapel, interment to follow at 1:30 P.M. in the Ketchum Cemetery.

So sorry to hear about your loss. Dixie was always so sweet to me and the kids. She was a like the refreshing breeze in sometimes tense situations. I was always thankful for her kindness and humor.

Grandma welcomed me with open arms since the first day I met her. Sterling insisted that i meet his grandma the day after Halloween. I had stayed the night at a friends house so I was still in my Halloween costume and I hadn’t even showered. I was so nervous but he told me she doesn’t care. I walked through the door and she hugged me and we talked for hours. She was the most kind person and she accepted everyone like family and I am so grateful to have gotten to know her for the last 10 years. Every single time I saw her she would ask me how my whole family was doing, how my dogs were doing, and she even would ask me about my bearded dragon lol. She genuinely cares about people and I admire that so much. Another thing I admire is the love she had for HER family. Her grandchildren meant everything to her and it really showed. I’m going to miss her so much. I’m thankful for the time I had with her.

My mom and I shared in our love of animals and babies. My mom bought me a pony when I was 3 years old and taught me everything I needed to know about horses. She fostered the love I had for animals and when I brought home any injured, abandoned, critter of ANY type, she could never say no. She would help me bring them back to health and release them or they would become our family pet. When I was 13 we bought my horse, Missy, for $100. Missy was a young thoroughbred that had been badly abused and was “unable to break”. She was going to be put down if a home wasn’t found. My mom helped me break the unbreakable horse. She didn’t step in or take control, she just guided me as needed. I remember the happiness in her eyes as the bond grew so strongly between Missy and I. She knew that horse needed me and I needed that horse. My teen years were tough and our relationship, at times, was near broken. At 17, I became pregnant with my 1st son. I was so afraid to tell my mom, but when I did, she didn’t scorn me or make me feel like I had disappointed her and God. She just said, “Well, I guess we’re having a baby.” She drove me to the hospital when I was in labor and cried as she saw me go through the pain of giving birth. She loved my son and seeing how deeply she loved him reminded me of how much she Always loved me. She was just as much a part of all my children’s lives as I was. She helped me raise them and took so much pride in every one of their accomplishments. She was the one person on earth that truly would, stop anything and everything to be there if we needed her.

Aunt Dixie was big part of my child hood, if we weren't at her house she was at her sisters (my Grandma Carol) when we were there, with my cousins. Those were the best times I've kept close to my heart of Aunt Dixie. She always smiled and always loved making us kids laugh and made sure we always had a great time when she was around. I Love you Aunt Dixie, and you will always be in my heart forever.

So sorry for you lose. I remember how Dixie loved her children and grands. Praying for you all during this time of sadness. Our loved ones certainly leave a void that only God's comfort can fill. Much love, Marybeth and Carl
