Janice Steil, 81, and her beloved husband, Charles “Chuck” Steil, 79, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away within hours of one another on October 8, 2026.
Janice was born on July 21, 1945, and Chuck was born on February 21, 1947. Married in 1979, they shared a life filled with love, family, faith, travel, service, and adventure. Janice grew up in Tulsa after moving there as a young child. She dedicated 35 years of her professional life to Sun Oil Company, where she worked as a collector. She also preserved memories of her childhood and experiences in her memoir, Reflections of a Baby Boomer, published in 2004.
Chuck built a 35-year career as an insurance agent. He also served his country during the Vietnam War, earning numerous military medals and certificates in recognition of his service.
Faith and community service were important parts of their lives. Janice served as Parish Secretary at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, while Chuck served as Senior Warden. Together, they devoted more than a decade to St. Luke’s, sharing their time and talents in service to their church community.
Boating was a special part of their life together. Aboard their boat, the Nauti Girl, they enjoyed time on Grand Lake and in Ketchum Cove. Both served as commanders of the United States Power Squadrons, with Chuck serving from 2000 to 2001 and Janice from 2001 to 2002. Their leadership reflected their commitment to boating safety, education, and fellowship. Chuck and Janice also shared a love of travel, visiting all 48 continental United States together. Of all the places they explored, Key West, Florida, remained their favorite destination.
They are survived by their daughter, Mary, son-in-law, Kalon, and grandson, Calvin, along with extended family and friends who will cherish their memories.
Chuck and Janice built a life defined by partnership, hard work, faith, service, and devotion to family and community. From their professional careers and years of church service to Chuck’s military service, days on the water, and travels across the country, they created a lifetime of memories and lasting contributions. Their passing within hours of one another brings a poignant close to their shared journey, but the love and legacy they leave behind will endure.
A memorial service honoring Chuck and Janice Steil will be held on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Saint John’s Episcopal Church, 4200 S. Atlanta Place, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74105.
