Catherine Anderson

Catherine Frances Anderson died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, January 21, 2011 at the age of 97. She was born November 25, 1913 in Maumee, Arkansas to James Thomas and Glennie Bell Langston.

After high school in Arkansas, where she was a prom queen and a basketball player, Catherine moved to Tulsa, where she attended Tulsa Business College and subsequently met her husband-to-be, C.H. "Andy" Anderson. Andy became a successful General Electric dealer and over the years the couple traveled extensively to Asia, Europe and the Caribbean on GE-sponsored trips. Catherine was a long-time member of First Christian Church, Oaks Country Club and the Tulsa Mrs. Club. She was an avid golfer and was extremely proud of her three holes-in-one she scored on the Number Six hole at the Oaks. She held several leadership positions with the Oaks Women's Golf Association over the years and she was fierce competitor in gin rummy tournaments. Catherine and Andy were keen Oklahoma Sooners and Dallas Cowboys football fans and traveled often to college bowl games and pro games in Dallas.

She is survived by her son, Paul, and his wife, Nancy, of Tulsa, and daughter, Pamela Blackstone, and her husband, Bob, of Bernardsville, New Jersey. She also is survived by grandchildren Brent Deatherage and wife Michelle of Tampa, Florida; Gillian Anderson and husband Bradley Sweek of Seattle, Washington; and Allison Blackstone, Brittany Blackstone and Zack Blackstone, all of Bernardsville, New Jersey.

Catherine will lie in state noon to 8:00 p.m. Monday with family receiving friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at Memorial Park Chapel, to be followed by internment at Memorial Park. Ninde Brookside, 742-5556.
