Ann Marie Atkins Burke

Our mother, Ann Marie (Atkins) Burke was born April 3, 1927 in Tulsa to Dr. Paul N. Atkins Sr. and Ann (Ogle) Atkins.  She left this life peacefully Thursday, August 16, 2018 with her daughter, Cathy by her side.  Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Dr. Paul N. Atkins Jr. of Tulsa, Dr. John H. Atkins of Bremerton, WA and Jane Elizabeth “Betty” Kerr of Farmington, NM.

Ann was a 1944 graduate of Monte Cassino High School.  She earned her Bachelor’s degree in 1947 from Oklahoma A&M (now OSU), where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha. Ann married Charles E. Burke in 1948 and later earned her Master’s degree plus in education from the University of Tulsa.  Ann taught in the Tulsa Public Schools for 23 years where she endeavored to pass along her passion for reading and its importance to the students whom she loved. Her last assignment was at Chouteau Elementary School.

Ann was a lifelong member of Christ the King Catholic Church, where she had many great friends.  She enjoyed playing Bridge and the church productions in which she tap-danced and acted.  She loved to cook and entertain.  After her retirement, she traveled extensively with friends to many interesting and exotic destinations worldwide.  Her life was well lived.  Best of all for us, she was a wonderful mother and will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her children, Ann Cathaleen “Cathy” Campbell and Charles Randolph

“Randy” Burke and his wife, Ruth; one grandchild, Christy and one great grandchild, Royce.  Several dear nieces and nephews and their children.

We wish to express our sincere appreciation for the kind and loving care mother received from all the staff at University Village and St. Francis Hospital and Hospice.

A rosary will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday and a memorial mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2018 both at Christ the King Catholic Church.  A reception will follow at the church and the graveside committal will be 1:30 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to Christ the King Church, Catholic Charities or a charity close to the givers heart.
